There’s a reason why it is preferable to use Hydrogel or under eye gel patches when doing lash extensions, lash removal and lash lifts and here’s why:
Our skin under the eyes is much thinner than the rest of our face and body. The skin under the eye area is also more sensitive to chemicals, sun damage and wrinkles. Because the skin under our eyes are so thin, it also loses elasticity more quickly, which is why under the eye area would be the first place that shows any signs of ageing.
This is also the reason why a lot of beauty products such as clay masks or serums will tell you to avoid the eye area, this is usually to prevent sensitivity. For this reason, we are encouraged to use eye creams for the eye area instead of normal moisturiser.
Tape, whether it’s microfoam or micropore tape, in fact any medical grade tape were not made with the intention to be used under the eyes. Medical grade tape means that they are gentle on the skin but skin on other parts of our body is not the same as the under eye area. Especially for clients who are older, because as we get older, our skin gets thinner and we lose elasticity, and those who suffer from skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema are most definitely not suitable for the use of tape.
Hydrogel patches on the other hand are far more gentle on the skin, they are designed to be used for the under eye area. Lashpro hydrogel patches do not contain oils and collagen, and the gel is made from water. The patches adhere well to clean skin, they don’t tug or pull on the skin and most importantly, they don’t pull on the skin when they are being removed, which all tape ultimately do causing premature wrinkles, loss of elasticity and tearing of the epidermis (the top layer of the skin).
Since lash lifts and lash extensions are here to stay, let’s all be knowledgeable and choose the safer and more preventative option.
