When LashPro first began supplying lash products in 2018, the lash industry looked very different to what it does today.
At the time, the market was dominated almost entirely by classic lashes (can you believe that 0.25mm thickness was a popular and common choice??), with Russian volume only just starting to emerge. Even then, Russian volume wasn’t widely adopted and fan making was still considered a specialist skill rather than a standard part of a lash artist’s toolkit. Many artists were still learning the basics, and innovation in products was limited.
But even in those early days, we could see something coming.
Seeing the Gap Before It Existed
One of the biggest motivations behind LashPro was our desire to bring innovation into the South African lash market.
At the time, most local suppliers stocked only classic and volume lashes, not because there wasn’t demand for more, but because there was a reluctance to experiment, evolve, or take risks on new products. The industry was comfortable, but it wasn’t moving forward.
We believed lash artists deserved more options, better tools, and smarter products that made their work easier and more creative. Afterall, lash artistry is a business, not a hobby, so why would a supplier not want lash artists around the country to be able to do their work better and more efficiently?
That belief led us to become the first supplier in South Africa to introduce easy-fanning lashes, which we proudly named Blooming Lashes™, a name we went on to trademark. These lashes changed the game, allowing artists to create volume fans effortlessly and consistently, without the steep learning curve that previously held many back. (Do you still remember the backlash that some people received for using Blooming Lashes because it is considered “cheating”?? Share these thoughts and laughable moments in the comments below).
Watching the Industry Evolve
Fast-forward a few years, and the lash industry has transformed dramatically.
What was once considered “advanced” is now standard practice. New lash styles, fibres, curl types, adhesives, and application techniques continue to emerge. The industry has shifted from purely professional services to include DIY, retail, and at-home solutions, making lashes more accessible than ever before.
This evolution is something we’ve embraced wholeheartedly, because growth and change are exactly what keep an industry alive.
In fact, we previously explored this very topic in our article on whether the lash industry is dying and if anything, the answer has become even clearer with time.
Always Looking Forward
If there’s one thing our journey has taught us, it’s that innovation never stops and neither should we.
We’re incredibly excited to see what the future of lashes holds. New technologies, new techniques, and new ways for artists and clients alike to express themselves are constantly unfolding. And as always, LashPro will be right there, listening, learning, and leading where we can.
Because LashPro has never just been about products.
It’s about family, community, and staying true to the promise we made from the very beginning:
to innovate, to keep quality uncompromising, and to ensure our products remain accessible and affordable without cutting corners.
This is only the beginning and we can’t wait to see where lashes go next!
